Dr. (Mrs.) Cashmera Percy Bhaya
The book is far more than the Bhaya Report of 1988 “which made available data on Parsi families of rural Gujarat living in abject poverty of which the community was hitherto blissfully unaware,” Dr. Bhaya’s thesis on the Parsis of Choriyasi Taluka in the 1990’s and the ongoing rehabilitation work in the villages till date, 2024, by the World Zoroastrian Organisation Trust, Mumbai. It has a wide array of compiled data on the Indian and Global Parsis, updated until April 2024, including the ordainment of Vada Dasturji Tehemton Mirza in Iranshah Atash Behram in Udvada on February 11, in accordance with the tradition of having two priests at the Iranshah. Additionally, throughout the book, even in the Chapter References, Glossary, Bibliography and Index, the reader will find small but informative details such as there is a 2,000 year old Jewish cemetery which is well-maintained and open to visitors near Alibaug close to Mumbai, population of Jews in the Indian Census of 2011, the history of the Afarganyu (fire vase) in the prayer room at Houston, the name of the only Fasli Atash Kadeh in the world, that there were once 115 Towers of Silence in India, Bahrain is the only country in the Middle-East with an aramgah exclusively for the Zoroastrians, Fire from Calcutta was transported for the consecration of Wadiaji Atash Behram in Mumbai, the special feature about the Gumbaj of Banaji Limji Agiary in Mumbai, importance of the Bhikha Behram No Kuvo, the forest of Doongerwadi in Mumbai is being revived, site with a compilation of everyday prayers recited by Vada Dasturji Keki Ravji, the names of the current six Vada Dasturji’s in India, importance of facing the East while praying, prayers which the family can pray on their own for their dear deceased ones, the importance of Jamshedi being prefixed before Navroze, simplified definitions of Jashan, Atash Behram, Atash Adaran, Atash Dadgah, names and meanings of Five Gathas and such elucidative facts.
So, dear readers, do read all the reviews and comments to get a feel of the book.
